In the mid-1800's our dear Adolphe Sax asked a friend to compose some music for his newest instrument, a Sax-ophone. His friend, Jules Demersseman (a noted flautist of all things!) was happy to oblige and wrote the first truly important solo for the saxophone, which his close friend Henri Wuille then made famous. This piece, "Fantaisie, Sur un Theme Original" or simply "Fantasie" became one of the great yardsticks of saxophone repertoire.
Today, this colorful and melodic piece continues to be performed by alto saxophonists throughout the world. It is simply one of a handful of compositions which, even 150 years later, retains it fresh sound and audience appeal.
Sadly some might say, this was written for Eb Alto Saxophone with Piano accompaniment. For 150 years all of the great tenor saxophonists have had to look elsewhere for repertoire.
Today is the dawn of a new era, a new opportunity presents itself. Lyrical Music Publications is happy to announce that Jules Demersseman's monumental composition "Fantaisie" is now available for the Bb Tenor Saxophone (and yes of course it can be performed on Bb Soprano Saxophone should you so wish) directly from Lyrical Music Publications. Eventually, this will be offered on other platforms, such as Amazon.
Finally, the Bb Tenor Saxophone world may celebrate and perform this monumental classic. To celebrate this occasion this edition will be offered at an introductory price of $15.00 at Lyrical Music Publications (LyricalPub.com) and elsewhere at a suggested list price of $20.00
